Local Area

Villa Remvi is a short drive or walk along an unnamed but well-maintained track on the outskirts of Fterno, a picturesque traditional village with two family-run tavernas. They will even supply you with fresh meat from their stock that graze nearby, and there are van deliveries of fresh produce and bread during the week. Explore the rustic walking and cycling tracks from the village and enjoy the slightly cooler temperature afforded by the elevated setting.  A well-stocked modern supermarket is a short drive away on the road to the coastal village of Mikros Gailos, whilst the hamlets of Syvota, Vasiliki and Nidri are all within easy reach.  It’d be easy to spend your entire holiday at Remvi, but we believe a car is essential both in terms of transfer from/to the airport but also so that you can make the most of what this wonderful island has to offer.  If you’d rather not spend your holiday shopping for provisions, we can recommend local suppliers who will bring food and incredible value Greek wine to you.   Interested in finding out more?  Contact us

BEACHES

AND WATERSPORTS

Lefkada has many stunning beaches to choose from, Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma and Aghiofili to name but a few.  One of our favourite spots, Mikros Gailos, only a 15 minute drive from the villa on the south coast has a small sandy beach as well as our favourite, highly rated, fish restaurant Zalithros.  Vasiliki, Nidri and Lefkada town are the main watersports centres, offering activities from water-skiing and scuba diving to kite-surfing, SUP and wakeboarding as well as skippered and bareboat motor boat and sailing yacht charter.

BARS AND

RESTAURANTS

Apart from those on your doorstep in Fterno, there are numerous great beachside and village tavernas to choose from and we thoroughly recommend spending time in the pretty Lefkada Town with even more fabulous restaurants and bars to explore. Both Nidri and Vasiliki have many seafront restaurants and bars and a bit more nightlife, whilst smaller bays such as Syvota and Mikros Gailos provide a more local feel. The food is invariably fresh and delicious – tender open grilled lamb kebabs, the freshest seafood as well as more traditional Greek dishes such as the glorious slow cooked Kleftiko, all accompanied by the most wonderful fruit and vegetables.  Lefkadian specialities include lentils, sausages/salamis, pies and wine - there are even three wineries on the island.

FURTHER AFIELD

Lefkada offers a mountainous interior with cascading waterfalls and tree shaded walks to stunning viewing positions.  Notable charming villages include Sfakiotes, Karya, Katouna and Sivros where you can enjoy a welcome refreshment break amongst the most spectacular views and explore the many stunning churches, whilst gaining an insight into the local way of life.  Other highlights include the Santa Maura fort, wineries and even a windmill. Preveza Town, with its narrow, cobbled pedestrian streets and squares, museums and churches is a must.

SHOPPING

The Lefakdian embroidery is unique since it incorporates the “Karsaniki” stitch which isn’t used anywhere else in Greece.  The local ladies produce all things lace and knitted.  Of course, fine olive oil is plentiful as are carvings made from the wood.

HOW TO GET HERE

There are scheduled, charter and low-cost airlines flights to Preveza (also known as Aktion) airport from Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol in the UK, and many European cities.  This airport is a one-hour drive to the villa and there are car hire companies at the airport (we have negotiated preferential rates from some of these so do check with us before you book).  Flights are popular, so we recommend that you make your booking as soon as possible.

Although Preveza is the closest airport it is also possible to fly to Corfu and take the short ferry ride to Igoumenitsa where you can rent a car before driving the two hour coastal route to Villa Remvi, perhaps stopping to explore Preveza town on the way.  Another option is to fly via Keflaonia - the flights are often cheaper and it’s a stunning drive in your rental car across the island to the picturesque port town of Fiscardo where you will find a frequent ferry service to Nidri, a 15-minute drive to Villa Remvi .  Alternatively, consider an easy and scenic five hour drive from Athens or Thessaloniki.  Many of these options offer you the opportunity to extend your visit by a day or two and experience the wide variety that Greece has to offer.
